Vive focus abd oculus quest in employee training

New VR headsets for employee training. HTC VIVE FOCUS+ VS Oculus Quest

VR for enterprises is becoming common. But the giants of the VR market never cease to amaze us. Two new headsets with a bias on bulk purchases will soon hit the market, but information about them is already enough to judge how effective they are.

VR developers are making more and more progress every year, we see new products, that are closer adapted to our perception. The viewing angle is getting wider, the weight of the headsets is smaller, the graphics are more beautiful, and the hardware is more productive. But we are so used to hearing about each new product. What is so surprising about the new headsets that attracted such attention to them?

The gadget by HTC has an improved design, which increases the wearing comfort. The Focus Plus comes with two controllers that make the device a direct competitor to the Oculus Quest. The package will include two 6DoF controllers – with 6 degrees of freedom: these manipulators will allow for intuitive navigation in virtual space.

As part of the helmet used AMOLED display with a resolution of 2880 × 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 75 Hz.

The HTC Vive Focus Plus helmet doesn’t require an external computing unit. The headset has built-in rechargeable battery and is stand-alone product.

Oculus Quest is a VR console for enterprise and entertainment. Like the Go model, Quest is notable for its built-in computing system, but, unlike the Oculus Go, the new model has “room-scale” tracking and touch controllers. Tracking doesn’t interfere with the performance of your application and doesn’t affect it.

Oculus Go works thanks to the Snapdragon 821 microprocessor, when the Quest is dominated by the Snapdragon 835. The latter’s performance increased by about 30% and energy costs decreased by 40%.

A key element that is often overlooked in evaluating the performance of computing equipment is cooling.

With an active cooling system Quest can get a higher clock frequency than smartphones on the same Snapdragon 835. This means that the quality of graphics is a significant gap from Go.

Why did they deserve such attention against the background of their predecessors like HTC Vive and Oculus Rift?

Let’s start with the most obvious – the price. But can a headset that is cheaper be better? Of course yes. Complete freedom of action – we can forget about the wires, don’t think about stumbling, just completely immersed in the process. We can also forget about setting up sensors for controllers – a new controller with six degrees of freedom  are read by a VR helmet and doesn’t overload the system at all. Convenient remote control with a smartphone, slot for memory card, has AMOLED display – significant advantages to change your headset.

Wireless headsets are in particular demand among large companies, because of which such a novelty will surely take root in the industry and manufacturing.

Such headsets promise to be the most convenient for business. Modern applications like MojoXR – a platform for VR training and collaboration is already adapted to new products that have not yet been released, however a lunch date of new VR headset will be very soon.
